CLA May Help in the Fight Against Childhood Obesity

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is a supplemental dietary fatty acid that may help decrease body-fat. It is both a cis and a trans-fat, but the only example of a trans-fat that’s good for you!  In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in 62 overweight children (6-10 yr), the CLA group lost fat, while those on placebo continued gaining weight (body fat measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry). These children, who were taking 3g of CLA supplement per day also lost more belly-fat, known to be more metabolically active, while levels of HDL (“good”) cholesterol decreased significantly more.

What can you do?

CLA is a widely available supplement, that is sold by many reputable manufacturers.
